Consultations about the creation of unitary authorities across the country from Cumbria to North Yorkshire have just come to an end. ‘Super districts’ have been created in East and West Suffolk and Somerset West and Taunton. It is clear that reorganisation is the order of the day in local government. And the primary driver, especially since the advent of COVID-19, is a push to save money.
