Budget 2020: If this is a national crisis it's one many of us felt was already underway

Who could have predicted in mid-January that there would be any other news that could possibly displace Brexit as the main topic of discussion? It has taken a health crisis that potentially threatens the fabric of daily life to do this.

The result is a Budget that has had to re-evaluate what is important and has firmly prioritised supporting local services rather than squeezing them to their limits, and sometimes beyond.
