Budget deficit has soared amid pandemic says ONS

Britain’s budget deficit has soared due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic – but figures released by the Office for National Statistics have yet to take in the full effect.

Public sector borrowing rose by £9.3bn to £48.7bn in the year to 31 March, the ONS said, £1.3bn more than predicted by the Office for Budget Responsibility.
