Can elections staff go on?

Electoral administrators delivered despite - not because of - the current system, writes Peter Stanyon – and he says reform and harmonisation are urgently needed to improve the way we run elections in the UK.

As last week's election result rolls into this week's return to Westminster, electoral administrators are sending ballot boxes and polling booths to storage and working on post-election paperwork and accounts.

That the subject has been the politics of the election, not the process, shows that returning officers and election teams once again delivered safe, timely and accurate polls and results.
