Clarke vows to 'finish the job' on mayors and create more unitaries

Local government minister Simon Clarke has emphasised the Government’s commitment to introducing more elected mayors and unitary councils.

Speaking at the virtual Local Government Association conference the minister said that while 41% of residents in England ‘are now served’ by city mayors rising to 63% in the North ‘now is the time to finish the job.’
