Council to bring recycling centres in-house

By William Eichler | 16 December 2021

Kirklees MBC is to bring its household waste and recycling centres in-house as part of an effort to give the council more control over public-facing services.

A contract with the waste management firm Suez ends in 2025.

Cabinet member for environment, Cllr Naheed Mather, said: ‘By taking the household waste recycling centres into our own control, and moving away from an external contract, we will have far more control to deliver our ambition, and this will ultimately mean the ability to recycle a wider range of materials.

‘This is something we know we need to do to help us reach our recycling rate target of 55% and something we know residents want based on our engagement.’
