Councils under ministerial pressure over winter care funding

Ministers have piled pressure on councils to maintain winter funding for home care packages, hours of care and care home placements as bed blocking increases.

Local government secretary Robert Jenrick and health and social care secretary Matt Hancock have written to council leaders asking them to confirm that local service capacity to ‘support prompt patient discharge’ this winter will be ‘at least the level provided during winter 2018/19.
