Exclusive: Councils 'Struggling' to deliver on food standards

Some councils are ‘struggling to do even the most urgent and priority’ work on food standards, a government watchdog has told chief executives of local authorities in England.

A letter to councils from chief executive of the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Emily Miles, said there had been a ‘significant reduction’ in the resources given to some teams.The letter read: ‘The FSA has to be clear about our statutory responsibility to act in the consumer interest.
