Health staffing is up as local government employment falls

The latest figures on public sector employment out today show a continuing drop in staffing, which is at its lowest level since 1999. 

However, closer examination of the statistics show the waters are muddied by transfers of employees within the public sector, such as academies from local to central government and outside to the private sector, even though it is clear that the overall trend is downwards, except in the NHS.
