How many hats?

A decade ago, it looked as though ‘twin hats’, individuals combing the statutory roles of Director of Adult Social Services (DASS) and Director of Children’s Services (DCS), were well on the way to becoming the norm.

Yet even a cursory look at the latest edition of the annual Blue Book, the list of all DCSs published by the ADCS, shows how very strongly the tide has turned – only around one in ten Local Authorities now combine the two roles.
