As councils across the country deal with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, Surrey CC chief executive Joanna Killian speaks to Heather Jameson about her experience on the front line of the COVID-19 emergency. 

‘We declared a major incident three weeks ago,’ Surrey CC chief executive Joanna Killian tells The MJ. As the coronavirus crisis took hold in the UK, councils across the country and their partners leapt into action.

‘It felt like it was the right thing to do, to call a major incident. It felt right to call that as the lead authority. It felt right that I was chairing it,’ she says.
