Left or right is of less interest to a chief executive than ‘hands on or hands off’

There is a misconception that chief executives and senior managers in local government are like chameleons who change their colour to that of the party in power.  That they have no convictions but endorse the values and beliefs of those they serve.

Which is why a chief executive who finds themselves working with councillors affiliated to the National Front could claim this would not present them with a problem.
