Shadow communities secretary Teresa Pearce almost bounces into her office after Prime Minister’s Questions.

Instead of the usual boisterous barbing about the various options for Brexit, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had taken prime minister Theresa May by surprise, revealing a series of leaked bombshell texts on social care funding. The implications were still sinking in by the time Ms Pearce returned to her office, but clearly she was still buzzing.

‘Social care is an immediate crisis,’ she says, almost before sitting down. ‘There are councils setting their budget now that are on the edge.
