Operation Sheridan four released under investigation

By Dan Peters | 08 October 2020

Four sector figures arrested three years ago have been released under investigation following a review.

Former Liverpool City Council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald, the authority’s ex-interim boss David McElhinney and former Lancashire CC chief executive Phil Halsall and the council’s current leader Geoff Driver were all arrested in 2017 on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and intimidating witnesses as part of Operation Sheridan.

Mr Fitzgerald, Mr McElhinney and Mr Halsall also face fraud allegations.

All four deny the charges.
