Pickles praises mayors during pandemic

Former local government secretary Eric Pickles has admitted he was a ‘late convert’ to the idea of metro mayors.

Speaking at a Westminster Social Policy Forum keynote seminar yesterday, Sir Eric admitted he had been sceptical about the policy but praised West Midlands’ Andy Street, Tees Valley’s Ben Houchen and Greater Manchester’ Andy Burnham for their role during the pandemic.
