'Purdah' starts across England in run-up to 5 May elections

The pre-election period known as ‘purdah’ starts tomorrow (Friday) for the English local elections and voting referendum on 5 May.

The pre-election period known as ‘purdah' starts tomorrow (Friday) for the English local elections and voting referendum on 5 May.

Under government regulations, councils are unable to issue publicity, which could be deemed as party political or relating to anyone standing, once the date of the election has been formally published.
