Quarter of council jobs lost in nine years

A quarter of local government jobs have been cut since 2010, new data from trade union Unison has found.

Local authority headcount plummeted from 966,577 to 726,572 in the space of nine years, with 108,000 made redundant and more than 124,000 transferred to private contractors.
