Communities secretary James Brokenshire has delivered a speech full of praise for local government at the LGA’s Bournemouth conference – prompting suspicions he is about to be reshuffled. Usually, nobody who is so complimentary is allowed to stick around for long.

Mr Brokenshire may not have delivered much of substance to his local government audience, but it is any surprise?
