Top civil servant opens up on asylum challenge

A senior Whitehall official has admitted she has a ‘knot in my stomach most days’ as she grapples with the unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) influx.

At least 7,000 migrants have managed to cross to the UK in small boats this year, taking advantage of good weather and the better survival rates compared to hiding in trucks.
