Tory councillors' support for leadership hopefuls bucks party trend

Support for the two Tory leadership candidates among Conservative councillors is finely balanced despite Liz Truss reportedly holding a commanding lead among the wider party membership.

A new poll by Savanta ComRes found the foreign secretary has the backing of 31% of Tory councillors compared with 29% for former chancellor Rishi Sunak. Thirty-two per cent are said to be undecided.
