Tower Hamlets election evidence emerges

Some 30 Tower Hamlets LBC staff were instructed to secure 100 votes each for Mayor Lutfur Rahman or risk losing their jobs, evidence presented in a looming High Court case has alleged.

The embattled East London leader could have his election victory overturned and be barred from public office for up to five years if the High Court case set to last several weeks overseen by Richard Mawrey QC finds Mayor Rahman and his party guilty of corrupt practices.

In the Statement of Case brought together by members of the public who are launching the legal action, a new series of allegations of misconduct in the lead-in to last May’s polls are raised.
