The Conservative leadership election has thrown doubt over plans for a three-year spending review, but the debate over the future of finances rolls on. As we wait for clarity, sector experts have been giving evidence to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee’s ongoing inquiry into council finances.

Quizzed at last week’s evidence session about which councils are under the greatest financial pressure, Local Government Association chair Lord Porter said small unitaries are the group of councils he’s most concerned about.
