City Hall was built for Bradford’s Borough Council which sought to tackle growing social, health and environmental problems.
The industrial revolution saw Bradford boom but while it boasted more millionaires than London it was home to significant poverty. Rapid growth and industrialisation generated poor health, pollution and overcrowding. Over time, the city’s response would see it become synonymous with pioneering civic leaders, social reformers and radical innovators.
