It could take a generation to restore public confidence if there are major problems at the next General Election including with voter ID, a watchdog has warned.
Giving evidence to the House of Lords’ Constitution Committee last week, director of communications, policy and research at the Electoral Commission, Craig Westwood, said the occurrence of a ‘major problem’ would ‘fundamentally risk undermining public confidence’.
