Hillingdon LBC has slammed as ‘unsubstantiated' a proposal by neighbouring Slough to consider merging with it as part of local government reorganisation.

The troubled Berkshire unitary, which has been subject to government intervention since issuing a section 114 in 2021, has mooted mergers with various neighbouring authorities as part of the sector's shake up, including merging with a west London borough or boroughs and joining the Greater London Authority.
