Mrs May occasionally fails to inspire. ‘Brexit means Brexit’ may be memorable, but not in the way she’d like. Her 2017 election campaign saw her lose a commanding lead and a majority. But sometimes she gets it right.

Her talk of ‘The British Dream’ of rising living standards – and home ownership – is absolutely right. The problem she faces is that so far nothing Conservative Governments have done since 2010 has moved the dial.
