More than 280 applications for free schools have been submitted to the Department for Education (DfE).

More than 280 applications for free schools have been submitted to the Department for Education (DfE), it has been announced.

New figures suggest 60% of bids are from community groups, although a sizeable portion – nearly a fifth – are from independent schools creating new campuses.
