More than 400,000 new houses could be built in greenfield sites in the south of England over the next five years according to analysis commissioned by the countryside charity CPRE.

Reporting on the Government's recently revised controversial planning guidelines, which aim to meet extra housing demand concentrated mainly in the south-east, the charity said it would mean more building on greenfield sites and a need for more infrastructure.
