A new electronics communications code designed to make the rollout of 5G easier has backfired, leading to a two-year hold-up due to legal wrangling.

London's chief digital officer, Theo Blackwell, said the code's unclear wording on the issue of access to street furniture including lampposts and the lack of accompanying guidance had encouraged expensive and lengthy litigation.
