Nearly 700,000 working-age households face the prospect of average £120 increases in council tax after the withdrawal of government transition grant.

Nearly 700,000 working age households face the prospect of average £120 increases in council tax after the withdrawal of government transition grant, research published today has revealed.

According to a freedom of information survey undertaken by the False Economy campaign group, 83 English local authorities will reduce support – of whom more than 50 had depended on the £100m safety net to develop localised support schemes in 2013/14.
