More than 80% of MPs say business rates 'not fit for purpose'

More than 80% of MP’s believe business rates are ‘not fit for purpose and in need of fundamental reform’ according to a poll released today by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

More than 80% of MP's believe business rates are ‘not fit for purpose and in need of fundamental reform' according to a poll released today by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The poll also found 93% of MPs agreed that business rates were crucial to the future success of the UK's High Streets.

The consortium has called on the government to overhaul the rates system by 2017. It claims business rates should:
