The Autumn Statement spared local government from worse cuts and the sector won three lobbying victories on long-term financial planning, a review on business rates and licensing, writes Cllr David Sparks
Last week’s Autumn Statement was perhaps as significant for what it didn’t include for local government as what it did.
Crucially, in the short-term at least, it didn’t impose any further cuts on local government for 2015/16 on top of those already announced.
At a time when local authorities are contending with the biggest cuts in living memory, it was at least cause for a small sigh of relief to see that our campaigning against any additional cuts had been listened to.
