Benefits teams overcome COVID challenges

Most councils in Scotland maintained or improved benefits services during the COVID-19 pandemic while battling short staffing and technological issues, a report has found.

The report by Audit Scotland found almost two-thirds of councils’ performance processing of new claims in 2020-21 was equal to or better than the previous year despite teams having to adapt to working from home, a worldwide shortage of IT and office equipment, and absences.
