Local government must ‘turn the tide’ on 40 years in which its autonomy has been eroded, a new report has concluded.
Research by De Montfort University, commissioned by the Unlock Democracy campaign group, found councils’ standing had been ‘eroded by successive governments of all political persuasions’ since the late 1970s.
