Casey hits out at COVID 'incompetence'

Former government housing adviser Dame Louise Casey has hit out at the ‘incompetence’ of how the COVID crisis has been managed.

Speaking to the BBC, she said it was ‘crazy’ that Newcastle City Council leader, Cllr Nick Forbes, had only heard about his local lockdown when it was announced on social media.

Dame Louise said local areas were being ‘mismanaged,’ messages were ‘unclear’ and the test and trace system 'doesn’t appear to be working’.

She also raised concerns that the areas hardest hit by lockdown were among the most deprived in the country, according to government figures.
