Civil servants argue voter registration overhaul is too expensive

Senior Whitehall officials have told peers simplifying the voter registration system would be too costly.

Calls from the local government sector to create a single IT system for use by all councils were put to Cabinet Office civil servants by members of a Lords select committee looking at the Electoral Registration Act 2013.
