Councils face mounting costs ahead of snap poll, officers warn

Councils face mounting costs as they battle to get ready for a looming General Election.

Election teams are now working extended hours across seven-day weeks to ensure that the polls on December 12 and subsequent counts go smoothly after MPs finally backed Boris Johnson's demands to go to the country in an attempt to end the Brexit deadlock.

Officers this week spoke of the pressures they face in front of the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 Committee.
