Councils warned against ‘precautionary’ school closures

The Government has told councils schools should not be closed unless there is a ‘public health emergency’.

While individual schools have closed due to staff shortages, three authorities in Wales have become the first to issue notice of blanket closures, with most pupils switching to remote lessons next week amid ‘soaring’ infection rates.
