Keeping our hospitals going

For some, winter brings a host of exciting things to look forward to: Christmas, New Year’s Eve or the thought of some snow. But for others, particularly those who are responsible for making sure that hospitals cope, the arrival of winter can have a chilling effect. 

One adult social care manager told me recently: ‘The weekly calls from the Department of Health about hospital discharge started in September. Winter has arrived.’
