Mayors demand fiscal freedoms

The Government has been urged to go further with devolving powers to existing combined authorities.

Speaking at an evidence-gathering session of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham said he believed the combined authority model ‘could work anywhere’ but pressed for further powers such as the ability to implement a tourist tax and workplace parking levy.
