Officials may break law by using tablets at elections

Returning officers (ROs) are weighing up whether to risk breaking the law by replacing paper registers with tablets at polling stations in May, The MJ understands.

Current legal opinion suggests the use of tablets is not permitted by law and it is believed the Government does not believe it is necessary to change legislation.
