Ploughing ahead with Universal Credit is not a sign of strength

While attention since the Conservative conference has been targeted at Theresa May's coughing, the rollout of Universal Credit presents some serious implications to local government. Heather Jameson argues the situation can be rescued, with a pause.

Party conferences are always a fascinating window into the world of politics – the moment where, in the supposed comfort of their own back yard, party leaders parade policies, pose and posture.

But while all eyes in Manchester this week were on Theresa May's coughing, Boris's Brexit strategy or Sajid's sweat, there were issues with far more immediate ramifications for local government.
