MANAGEMENT

What if the job is too big?

Sometimes the job is too big for the individual, and sometimes the job is too big for anyone and it’s time for a rethink on structure and responsibilities, says Blair Mcpherson.

Sometimes you don't know just how big the job is until you take up the post.

It wasn't my bosses' fault or that of the organisation. It was just that it was only once all the stakeholders and partner agencies sat down together to identify what would need to be done that the size and complexity of the project became clear. There was a hard deadline, a fixed budget and high expectations plus it was clear that while people were happy to identify issues and questions they were looking to me for answers. Answers I didn't have! Well not straight away.
