What about local government reorganisation?

Heather Jameson says two things repeatedly return that make the prospect of reorganisation loom silently over the sector: the perilous state of its finances and the rush towards devolution and combined authorities

Since the new Government was elected in July, there has been a flurry of activity around housing, planning and devolution. But there are still some huge issues to be addressed – take adult social care and children's services.

While the Chancellor keeps drumming it into us all that the finances are worse than she thought – so don't expect any good news in the Budget and finance settlement – it may be a message for the whole nation, but double it for local government.
