Last week's emergency budget was billed by the chancellor as a ‘budget for working people', designed to get people off benefits and back into work, and boost the economic performance of the nation.

Moves to make work pay, and to cut welfare, were accompanied by a cut in corporation tax to cushion the blow for private firms – but what does it all mean for local government?
