Eric Pickles has agreed to rethink a planned £148m cut in council budgets to fund the government’s academies programme, following a judicial review brought by 23 local authorities.

Eric Pickles has agreed to rethink a planned £148m cut in council budgets to fund the government's academies programme, following a judicial review brought by 23 local authorities.

The authorities had challenged a provision in February's Local Government Finance Report to reduce Revenue Support Grant (RSG) by £148m this year and by an estimated £265m in 2012/13.
