ACCA raises fears over level of audit scrutiny

Accounting experts have backed Parliament's inquiry into the decision to scrap the Audit Commission, amid fears that self-regulation of councils' audit function would lead to conflicts of interest.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), which has members in 170 countries worldwide, described the decision by the communities and local government select committee to hold a full inquiry into the audit and inspection of local authorities as ‘really good news'.
