Act offers Welsh a chance to shape future, says Hain

The new Government of Wales Act could see greater powers and influence handed down to local councils.

Speaking at the Welsh Local Government Association  conference in Llandudno, secretary of state for Wales, Peter Hain, said the enhanced legislative powers would be good news for local government. ‘Wales has been transformed, and local government has flourished more effectively and gained more status than anywhere else in the UK,' he said.
