A Localism Act requirement forcing councils to list assets of community value could help preserve the country's theatrical heritage, the Theatres Trust has claimed.

Publishing its annual list of ‘theatres at risk', the national advisory body counts historic Wilton's Music Hall in east London (pictured), and the State Cinema in Grays among 24 theatres removed from last year's register. It follows energetic local and national campaigns to save both sites.
