Local authority treasurers' societies have taken a sideswipe at the cash-guzzling NHS as they called for investment in adult social care.

Finance directors from county, London, metropolitan and unitary councils, where adult social care accounts for about 35% of spend, pointed out funding to the NHS had increased by nearly 20% since 2010/11 and yet the organisation is ‘still seen to be in crisis with a promise of £8bn extra by 2020'.
